Visualizations for the expansion of the Basel rail hub
The preliminary study on the «Basel rail hub» covers future scenarios for the development of the region's transport infrastructure and cross-border rail transport by SBB, DB, and SNCF. evoq developed maps, 3D models, and animations to illustrate the preliminary study. These make the possible future expansions of the Basel rail hub easy to understand.
One possible scenario for the Basel rail hub involves underground S-Bahn connections between Basel SBB and Basel Badischer Bahnhof. The preliminary study shows how transport capacity for future passenger and freight traffic in the region could be provided. In addition to new underground lines, this scenario would also require an expansion of the station infrastructure, in particular a new underground station at Basel SBB. However, the Basel rail hub remains the focus of regional and national transport policy, and other scenarios are also being examined.
The rail hub in clear maps
Two multilingual overview maps show all the projects in the preliminary study, including underground routes for possible new rail connections, at a glance. They are aimed at the interested public and are intended to convey the possible future developments in a clear and understandable way. The maps show the options for the routes between the underground stations Basel SBB, Basel Mitte, and Badischer Bahnhof. A second map from the preliminary study shows the necessary upgrading projects on the existing infrastructure that are required for the new routes in Basel's underground. Both maps are based on data from SBB Trafimage and take into account the relevant design guidelines of SBB.
The underground station as a 3D plan and film
The possible expansion of Basel SBB station is presented in a detailed 3D graphic. An explanatory video shows a possible journey through a future Basel station with a new basement level, a track level in the underground station, and new rail access from Margarethenbrücke.
Multilingual and versatile use
The presentations and films are available in German and French and are prepared in common formats for print and digital channels. This supports transparent and targeted communication of one of the most important transport infrastructure projects of the coming years.
